IWCC & HISTORY OF WHEELCHAIR CRICKET

HISTORY OF Wheelchair Cricket

Wheelchair Cricket was first played in the year 1992 in Bangalore, India among people living with lower limb disabilities and amputees.

The game was played by the batsmen sitting on chairs while able bodied people fielded so as to give an opportunity for the differently able people to play. Some of the people with lower limb disabilities preferred to sit on the ground and bat.

The first official wheelchair cricket match was not played until 1997 where wheelchair users per team batted while a common fielding team of 10 able bodied players fielded for both the teams held in Tasker Town Corporation grounds, Bangalore.
